Vivian Firger is a figurative and abstract oil painter living in New York City. She is a graduate of the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, and returned to painting after leaving a career in the fashion industry, where she worked as a designer, colorist, merchandiser and stylist. She previously has exhibited at the TASNY gallery in New York City and the Ceres Gallery in Chelsea, New York. Her paintings are in private collections in the United States and Canada.

In painting, the people I love and my world become transformed. I love the feeling of capturing a small essence of an image in my mind or from a photograph. I am fascinated by how powerful a tool color is for expression, especially when it is set in motion, sweeping viewers into the painting and engaging them.

My return to painting came when I left my fashion career behind me. Throughout my career, I worked with color and texture and form. Just as designing a fashion collection is about the right balance of color and proportion, so it is with a painting composition.

When I interact with a canvas and I see that balance, the simple act of painting becomes a dance and a joy. The brush, paint, canvas and painter—being me—all work together in a fine choreography.
